Cold War Simulation

As some of you may know for my Master's Project I have decided to create an educational game.

After careful thought and consideration, I have come to a decision. I am going to create a Cold War Simulation game. This idea stemmed from many resources and inspirations. Over the weekend, I was playing RISK! with a few friends. We were discussing how the map had developed almost into a cold war scenario. The idea was sparked and I thought that it had some potential.

I went on to play Fallout 3 on my Xbox 360 later this weekend. If you are not familar with the game, I first suggest you get it. Secondly, it is a non-linear branching story game. It takes place 200 years after nuclear war has devastated Washington D.C. Long story short, you play the role as a character that wanders to the surface in search of your father. Throughout the game you are always given a choice in dialog boxes. You can choose to be nice to everyone or you can kill everyone. Based on your actions you receive positive or negative karma. This karma level effects how you are treated and what options you have later on in the game.

I wanted to implement this idea on a smaller scale in my game. Again, I cam back to the idea of the Cold War. I envision the game as a way for players to relive moments of tension in the Cold War and make decisions based on the situation. Perhaps you can choose to be the US or the Soviet Union, in order to see both sides of the conflict.

I'll have more details to come in the following weeks. Stay tuned.
